The dawn of a new year is a time for resolutions. There is no better time to reflect on what is and what is still to come. As from 2017, NTGent and B'Rock will every year invite a notable thinker to express his wishes for the new year. This series, entitled I SAY TO YOU, will offer alternative New Year concerts in which music and speech enter into an inspiring dialogue. The main guest in the first in the series is Dyab Abou Jahjah, an enfant terrible in the social debate, but also a human rights activist, a columnist on De Standaard, a former leading light in the Arab-European League, and the founder of Movement X. In his talk he draws up a present-day balance of topics such as barbarism and the ideals of the French Revolution. B'Rock responds with music for strings by Antonio Vivaldi, Steve Reich and György Ligeti – three composers with at least as much grit as the first speaker in this new series.
