Does the recorder still bring back unpleasant memories of your schooldays? If so, you have obviously not heard Lucie Horsch. This hugely talented musician is barely seventeen, but she has already recorded a Vivaldi CD for Decca under the eloquent title Champion of the Recorder. Horsch's infectious energy and stylistic refinement make her the perfect sparring partner for B'Rock. Together, these musicians delve into the colourful orchestral repertoire of the Baroque. While the strings twirl through several iconic concerti grossi by Corelli and Händel, the recorder invites the whole orchestra to dance in a refined suite by Telemann and a virtuoso solo concerto by Bach. Swinging from madly exuberant to sensitive and restrained, one could hardly imagine a finer ode to the baroque orchestra as the height of unity in diversity.
