A genuine Mozart opera in a miniature format
In Mozart’s oeuvre, vocal and instrumental music are not separate worlds. On the contrary, the composer effortlessly allowed melodies to migrate between his operas and symphonies. And in this new production, A Symphony of Songs, it is precisely a genuine opera in a miniature format that René Jacobs and the B’Rock Orchestra are presenting. Jacobs reconciles several parts from Mozart’s renowned two last symphonies with key arias and love duets from the equally legendary operas The Marriage of Figaro and The Magic Flute, thereby creating a coherent, dramatic tension. The expressive baritone Johannes Weisser and the crystal-clear soprano Sunhae Im will take on the roles of Papageno, Papagena, Figaro and Cherubino, while the B’Rock Orchestra offers a vivid response to these immortal characters.
