A solid dose of flair
Concertos starring … a mandolin. At first glance, not something to get excited about? A completely normal response – until you hear and see Avi Avital at work. In recent years, almost entirely on his own, this Israeli mandolinist has put the instrument back on the world map of classical music and for that matter, jazz. With his unparalleled virtuosity and irresistible charisma, Avital is so sought after that he can choose whom he works with: from the BBC Symphony Orchestra through Kent Nagano, to famous jazz musicians such as pianist Omer Klein and bassist Omer Avital; all appear on stage with him.
And now B’Rock too, with its lively sound and energetic playing style, is the perfect match for Avital. Together the soloist and orchestra inject a solid dose of flair and verve into the fiery concertos of Italian baroque composers. And as if the challenge wasn’t big enough, Avital effortlessly interprets a number of Domenico Scarlatti’s keyboard sonatas.
