Gent citizens, B'Rock & Paul Griffiths
The socio-artistic project Petites Histoires is an initiative of Muziekcentrum De Bijloke & B’Rock, aiming to immerse residents of the city of Ghent who, for various reasons, live in precarious or vulnerable situations, in softness and beauty through an art and culture project. With this project, we want to give them a voice and enable interactions between diverse city residents.
The project is led by Paul Griffiths, vocal coach Sien De Smet and three B’Rock musicians. They work with various community groups in monthly music workshops around the theme ‘Petites Histoires’. The title refers to the common ground of this project, which is the city of Ghent. Ghent is considered a warm and social place for people from the most diverse backgrounds. But is Ghent really that social? How do residents experience living here? What does the city mean to them? In this project, we investigate what the little stories are of the average Ghent resident. What are their personal urban legends?
In Petites Histoires, we explore different truths together with some very diverse city residents. The project collects hidden stories and small-town history on a human scale. As storytellers, the artistic team gathers all these stories and sets them to music together.
Shows at 15h30 and 17h00.
Petites Histoires is part of B’Rock Encounters, generously supported by the players of the National Lottery.
