Maxim Emelyanychev & Vilde Frang
The musicians of B’Rock are not easily intimidated. Invariably, we enter into unexpected collaborations and build surprising bridges between genres and across time periods. This project is no exception. In one move, they travel from classical to minimalism, from Haydn’s dramatic symphony “with the timpani roll” to Pavel Karmanov’s electrifying GreenDNK.
In between, we make a stop in high-romanticism with Schumann’s Violin Concerto. And then things get really exciting. Not only has B’Rock never before played work by the German composer, but also for the first time the orchestra joins forces with the outstanding, ever-enthusiastic Vilde Frang. As if that were not enough of a challenge, the Norwegian violinist plays the concerto on gut strings – something she has never done before.
And it rains “firsts” in this production. Top young Russian talent Maxim Emelyanychev also makes his debut with B’Rock. That he not only shines as a conductor, but is also particularly skilful at the keyboard, he proves in Alfred Schnittke’s sparkling suite “in old style”.
