a feast of virtuosity and lyrical expression
In 2016, the German soprano Anna Lucia Richter won the prestigious Borletti-Buitoni Award. Which is not surprising, as this young singer is of international level, just like Mirella Hagen. B’Rock was able to snare both for a celebratory programme that does full justice to their clear, versatile voice. Bach‘s solo cantata Jauchzet Gott in allen landen is a feast of virtuosity and lyrical expression, in which the soprano and trumpet enter into an exalted dialogue. Mozart’s Exsultate Jubilate also radiates concert bliss. Although this solo motet was intended for the church, it might easily have escaped from an opera: the acrobatic coloratura part with all its theatrical effects was perfect for the castrato Venanzio Rauzzini. Bach’s third orchestral suite and Mozart’s heavenly Symphony no. 33, in which an early version of the illustrious ‘Jupiter‘ motif makes its appearance, prove that instrumental music can be jubilant too.
