Flamboyant, rich in contrast and playful...
In the 17th century, the economic success of the Italian port city of Venice caused an explosion of music, theatre, dance and carnival. The musical output of Antonio Vivaldi was one of the upshots of this. In this concert, B’Rock, along with the world famous recorder player Maurice Steger, will be linking up some of Vivaldi’s most exuberant concerti for recorder and/or strings with equally virtuoso works by such famous predecessors and contemporaries as Corelli and Geminiani. The resulting programme is virtuoso, flamboyant, rich in contrast and playful… Pay particular attention to Corelli’s Ground upon the sarabande theme of the 7th Sonata: an intense series of increasingly virtuoso variations on the Sarabande theme from his Seventh Sonata.
* Adapted programme in Amsterdam, without the Concerto for 4 violins in a by Torelli and without the Ground upon the Sarabande Theme based on Corelli.
