Led by sound wizard René Jacobs, B’Rock takes Handel’s Il Trionfo del Tempo e del Disinganno on tour – his first oratorio, composed for Rome in 1707.
This masterpiece highlights an allegorical duel between vanity and transience. When Bellezza (Beauty) becomes entangled in the temptations of Piacere (Pleasure), Tempo (Time) and Disinganno (Sobriety) lead her to insight.
The oratorio, with its ingenious construction and subtle characterisation of characters, shows Handel’s undeniable talent as a theatre composer. Not to be missed are some of his most memorable melodies, such as the timeless aria ‘Lascia la spina’.
