Italian baroque music from the 17th and 18th century
This new programme is all about Italian baroque music from the 17th and 18th centuries. We often forget how modern and experimental this music was and still is, from the genesis of purely instrumental music (the sonata) and ‘grounds’ based on popular tunes taken from 17th-century ‘pop’ songs (like the Aria sopra la Bergamasca) to the development of the solo concerto and the orchestra. Such musical terms as sonata, concerto and violin now sound very familiar, but this wasn’t the case for composers like Castello, Bertali, Marini and Uccellini. Here we are offering the Chinese audience modern ‘early’ music, full of inspiring ideas, innovative forms and surprising combinations. B’Rock is conducted by the Brazilian violin virtuoso Rodolfo Richter.
