Henry Purcell’s oeuvre is a seamless symbiosis between the older English musical tradition and the newest trends of the time, which originated from France and Italy. B’Rock and the Choeur de Chambre de Namur will be presenting a festive Purcell programme rich in emotion, expression and virtuosity. As well as intimate songs, often for a single soloist and basso continuo, such as the meditative Music for a While, and the melodic, richly decorated If music be the food of love, they will also be playing large-scale vocal works like Come, Ye sons of art, a jubilant piece written in honour of the birthday of Queen Mary II of England. This time, B’Rock will be conducted by Leonardo García Alarcón, the smart new star on the early music scene.
