Jean-Féry Rebel is a rewarding source of inspiration to B’Rock. Rebel lived a long and productive life as a composer and violinist at the court of Louis XIV. Once retired, he composed Les Elémens, an impressive ballet of effervescent rhythms and a multitude of timbres, performed by a very ample casted orchestra. The story of the primitive elements starts with the powerful and violent opening ceremony Le Chaos, followed by a suite of dances with light-footed rossignols and tambourins to subsequently end in perfect harmony. In Les caractères de la danse, in just ten minutes’ time and with striking sensuality, Rebel presented all common French dances from his time. They seem rather light-hearted in nature, but they are characterised by musical refinement and profundity. The French refinement is also clearly present in Georg Philipp Telemann’s Wassermusik. Like no other, he managed to interlace French style elements with German and Italian elements, to create his own early ‘European’ style. With the support of Alexis Kossenko, B’Rock is fortunate to have one of the most talented flutists and traverso players at their side.
