Opera Ballet Vlaanderen

Since season 2019-2020, B’Rock is a regular invited guest orchestra when the Opera Ballet Vlaanderen creates productions with baroque music. A unique chance for the orchestra to appear at its best: opera is a field in which B’Rock developed an international reputation through splendid productions at Staatsoper Berlin, Opéra de Paris, Theater an der Wien, the Ruhrtriennale and on many more stages and festivals around the world.

Within the long-term cooperation with OBV, B’Rock is proud to close the circle and bring these collected experiences into full play at home in Flanders, contributing to the goal of Opera Ballet Vlaanderen to move their audiences with their art.

Within the season 2019/2020, B’Rock and its Artistic Family member Bart Naessens joined the ballet production Cantus Firmus / Mea Culpa – a choreography by Jeanne Brabants and Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui, presented in both Antwerp and Ghent. In spring 2021, OBV and B’Rock saved the planned production Dido and Aeneas into a celebrated online performance, redefining the staging by director David Marton into an ambitious, live shot operatic film under the musical direction of Bart Naessens. Future plans include a revival of Mea Culpa and will feature B’Rock Orchestra’s Artistic Family member René Jacobs – more to be revealed in due course!

‘B’Rock is much more than a Baroque orchestra. With extraordinary ease they alternate between contemporary music and music from centuries past.

In past years I’ve had the pleasure of hearing and seeing them at work in innovative opera and dance productions as well as in exciting collaborations with visual artists, film makers, directors and choreographers. That is why we at Opera Ballet Vlaanderen enjoy working with B’Rock on Baroque operas and dance performances in which diverse art forms can come together in a new way.’
