MA Academy is a new biennial initiative between MA Festival, Concertgebouw Brugge, Il Gardellino and B’Rock and offers young musicians the opportunity to work under the inspiring leadership of Bertrand Cuiller. The participants are supported and guided by top coaches from B’Rock Orchestra and Il Gardellino, such as Jan De Winne, Marcel Ponseele, Rebecca Rosen and Evgeny Sviridov. The workshop will be concluded with a concert in Concertgebouw Brugge aspart of the MA Festival programme.

Initially Rameau was known primarily as a philosopher thanks to his scientific approach to music. So when he presented his operas, he did not receive a particularly warm reception from les Parisiens. The public did not expect him to be able to write such delightful music. Nothing proved further from the truth! He garnered his first successes as an opera composer with Hippolyte et Aricie, Les Indes Galantes, and his masterpiece Castor et Pollux.

This production was realized with the support of the Tax Shelter measure of the Belgian Federal Government through Flanders Tax Shelter

"There is one aspect of Rameau's orchestral treatment that cannot be missed. It is his innovative use of wind stands that makes him a forerunner of the Impressionists. That is why, in addition to the oboes, bassoons and flutes, which are very present throughout his work, we also add horns and clarinets to the string orchestra, which he introduced in opera.”
