Good resolutions belong to the start of a new year. It’s time to give a moment’s thought to what has and still needs to come. Baroque orchestra B’rock and music theatre LOD will produce the annual hybrid Lecture Songs as from 2010, a speaker’s concert where music and speech merge into an alternative new year’s concert. The music of Henry Purcell and contemporaries such as John Locke is the musical path on which a new coda is formed of contemporary sounds, words and graphics. The word, the speech, is written and spoken by philosopher of science Jean Paul Van Bendegem. Where are we? Where is the world going? B’rock composes an instrumental suite from the Fairy Queen, together with young top soprano Julia Doyle in the role of messenger, sometimes accompanied by the entire orchestra, other times just a sober lute. Graphic designer Gert Dooreman is responsible for the visual support.
