Bart Naessens

Bart Naessens has a rich profile: conductor and artistic director, harpsichordist and organist. He is also the director of the Bruges Conservatory and a teacher at the Royal Conservatory of Brussels (where he is Head of the Department for Early Music).

He brings all of this to the collaboration with B’Rock Orchestra: as musical director (from the cembalo) in Dido and Aeneas at Opera Ballet Vlaanderen, and as organist and artistic leader when we continue the ballet production of Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui’s Mea Culpa. Bart will also conduct our concert production of Handel’s Judas Maccabaeus, presented with a star-filled cast at the Bayreuth Baroque Festival.

‘Making music with B’Rock feels like coming home. We have the same approach and enjoy the same pursuit of perfection. I fell in love with them in 2019 after a successful collaboration with ‘Mea Culpa’. An exciting live-stream adaptation of Purcell’s opera ‘Dido & Aeneas’ followed in 2021. I hope to be able to continue to work with this group many times in the future, and in this new post-corona social era to work with them on a (re)new(ed) experience of art.’
