Benny Aghassi

Shared principal bassoon

Benjamin – Benny – Aghassi grew up in a small Israeli village next to Tel Aviv. “It was a peaceful childhood, surrounded by friends and orange groves.” He was playing the recorder at the age of 6 but started playing the bassoon only at the age of 24. “The bassoon has such an honest sound. It can be low and deep but also has a singing tenor quality.” The instrument also helps Benny control his nerves on stage. “The bassoon can absorb a lot of energy. You can play it as hard as you want, so you don’t need to keep the nerves inside.” Benny has been playing with B’Rock from the beginning: “We founded and created our own language and sound for the orchestra.” Back home from a long tour, the first thing he does is enjoy a proper espresso.
