The Travels of Monteverdi

B’Rock Orchestra & Vocal Consort

With The Travels of Monteverdi, B’Rock Orchestra & Vocal Consort invite the audience to follow Claudio Monteverdi’s artistic development from his days at the Gonzaga court in Mantua to the peak of his career as Maestro di Capella at San Marco in Venice. From the traditional polyphonic style of the old masters to the almost unrestricted freedom of the 'seconda prattica', from the foothills of the Renaissance to a still untouched new world of the dawning Baroque age.

Double Debut

Maxim Emelyanychev & Vilde Frang

Things get really exciting. Not only has B'Rock never before played work by Schumann, but also for the first time the orchestra joins forces with the outstanding, ever-enthusiastic Vilde Frang. As if that were not enough of a challenge, the Norwegian violinist plays the concerto on gut strings - something she has never done before. And it rains "firsts" in this production. Top young Russian talent Maxim Emelyanychev also makes his debut with B'Rock. That he not only shines as a conductor, but is also particularly skilful at the keyboard, he proves in Alfred Schnittke's sparkling suite "in old style".

Bach & Pergolesi

Some of the most beautiful dissonances in all of music history, the opening of Pergolesi's Stabat Mater is nothing more or less than that. With the cantatas "Vergnügte Ruh, beliebte Seelenlust" and "Mein Herze schwimmt im Blut," René Jacobs - pater familias of the B'Rock family - chooses the two perfect works to flank the world-famous work.

Venga la morte!

Schubert and Mozart

Indestructible love and a devilish deal are the ingredients of Der Freischütz, the very first great romantic opera. The swirling overture the clenched recipe for what is to come. Seamlessly, three Mozart arias connect to it. In the composer's most delicate works, German soprano and absolute specialist of the genre Christiane Karg sings of love and suffering. No shortage of drama after intermission either. Schubert's last complete symphony is as grand in scope as it is in musical richness.

A Night in Paris

Alexander Melnikov & B'Rock

With this program Alexander Melnikov and B'Rock show how adventurous programming in those days was. Considering the past and looking into the future, it inspires us to plunge into an artistically and intellectually challenging project, namely reviving this Société activities. A fascinating way to engage in the 19th century French wind playing manner.
