Get to know us

BRock Orchestra has the Baroque era at heart. Our intuitive, ambitious and connective approach has made us one of today’s most successful and forward-thinking period orchestras.

With an eye on the world around us and a desire for encounter and exchange, we feel inspired by collaborating with visionary artists. These frontrunners in the world of music, theatre, dance and the visual arts make up our Artistic Family. Together, we research, associate, and create captivating experiences for the ears of a broad audience.

We advance a dialogue with the connoisseur, the curious, and everyone in between. On period instruments, we explore five centuries of music in opera, oratorio and instrumental music. Presenting an excellent performance of a Baroque masterpiece is as important to us as a world première of contemporary music. Our B’Rock Vocal Consort gives us the freedom to expand our repertoire with like-minded singers.

🌱 Green Orchestra

We at B’Rock Orchestra want to reduce our carbon footprint as much as possible while still keeping our identity as an international touring orchestra.

In our sector it is a big challenge to combine artistic vision, market realities and the aim to act environmentally responsible. B’Rock Orchestra is taking on this challenge with measures on multiple levels:

  • Travel has undoubtedly the largest environmental impact for a touring orchestra: First and foremost we try to tackle this problem with smart strategic planning, in which the itinerary of a planned tour ideally allows us to avoid flights altogether.
  • We strongly encourage to carry out individual travels by train and support carpooling if public transport is not feasible. Group travels within a tour are as a standard planned by train. Flights are only considered if a train ride is longer than 8h.
  • Oversea tour planning is only carried out in exceptional cases and when the presence of the orchestra is more than one-off concerts, e.g. for residencies or in combination with other formats to create impact and actual cultural exchange, by offering masterclasses, children concerts, lectures or other participative elements.
  • Catering is vegetarian, giving priority to local, ideally organic and waste-reducing providers. Water is unbottled, whenever possible.
  • Our administration is fully digital. The infrastructure of the B’Rock office is increasingly sustainable: green energy, recycling and waste reduction, eco-friendly detergents are standard, and we exclusively use public transport or bike to get to work.

And we want to still get better: by learning from other orchestras and peers and by joining forces with other environmentally conscious cultural institutions to lobby for a more sustainable strategic lay-out of our sector. That is, why B’Rock is proud member of ARVIVA, an association focusing on ecology in the arts.
